About Art SV/SF

Art Silicon Valley/San Francisco (Art SV/SF) is Art Miami’s new International Contemporary and Modern Art Fair on the West Coast opening October 9-12, 2014. Centrally located between Silicon Valley and San Francisco, the fair is proud to present 75 highly respected international galleries and art institutions from France, Italy, Germany, England, The Netherlands, Finland, South Korea, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Venezuela, China, Austria, Argentina and The United States. The Fair will showcase investment quality Contemporary & Modern works of art for acquisition from the 20th and 21st centuries, including emergent talent and new media artists. Over 750 artists from 42 countries will be on exhibit during the fair.

In keeping with Art Miami’s high standards of quality, Art SV/SF will present a curated balance of blue-chip art along with works by emerging, mid-career and experimental talent. The fair will offer the unique experience of viewing great art and exploring innovative cultural programming including on-site installation projects, interactive art, artist talks and fair tours for all audiences and taste levels.

Art Silicon Valley/San Francisco is pleased to partner with the following notable bay area cultural institutions, many of whom are organizing independent exhibitions and events for the fair. We welcome these curatorial efforts and opportunities to encounter new art and ideas as an added dimension to the weekend’s events. We look to these cultural partners, along with the stellar international and U.S. artists and galleries represented at the fair, to provoke, surprise, and delight creative people throughout the Bay Area and Silicon Valley: Fine Arts Museums of S.F. (Artpoint); Creativity Explored; LISA; MACLA; SFADA; SJICA; Stanford Art Spaces; tmoro projects; UC Davis Art Studio; ZERO1; Shipyard Trust For The Arts (STAR); Djerassi Residents Artist Program; Leonardo; San Jose Museum of Art. 

The Fair takes place at the San Mateo County Event Center in San Mateo, conveniently located at the crossroads of U.S. 101 and CA 92 freeways and just 10 minutes south of San Francisco International Airport.

The VIP Preview will be a two-tier evening, providing limited early access for Platinum VIP cardholders on October 9th from 6:00pm-7:30pm and continuing for all VIP Cardholders from 7:30pm - 10pm.

It’s only fitting that the capital of high tech offers the highest standards of luxury and personalized hospitality. An environment of scenic beauty and state-of-the-art energy defines one of California’s most vital communities at Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley at East Palo. The Hotel will feature a special art exhibit throughout the lobby by six participating fair artists to coincide with the fair.

TRANSIT, SHUTTLES & PARKING

Art SV/SF is easily accessible via mass transit or car. 

BART
Take Bart to Millbrae Station. Exit the Millbrae Bart station across the parking lot to Millbrae Caltrain Station. At Millbrae station connect to Southbound Caltrain going towards San Jose. Exit at the Hillsdale Station to El Camino Real Blvd. At Hillsdale you can either walk, take a bus, or taxi.

CALTRAIN


You can take the Caltrain to either Hillsdale or Hayward Park station. The Fair will offer complimentary shuttle service between Caltrain in San Mateo and the fair. 

From Hillsdale Caltrain Station: Head northwest on S El Camino Real toward 31st Ave, turn right onto E 25th Ave, turn left onto S Delaware St. Turn right, turn right, and turn left. Approx. 1 mile.

From Hayward Park Caltrain Station: 
Head south on Pacific Blvd toward 19th Ave, turn right onto S Delaware St., turn left, and turn left. Approx .6 miles.

samTrans

Plan your trip on samTrans Trip Planner. Two SamTrans routes provide service to the Event Center from throughout the county and San Francsico. Routes 390 and 391 offer service along El Camino Real with a stop at 25th Avenue, two blocks west of the Event Center campus.

Bruce Helander has written extensively on Slonem’s work and career, including an informative critical essay titled “Quantum Lepus” for this latest volume, as well as a chapter in his book, Learning to See titled “Bird’s Eye View.”

Visual Thinking Strategies: Making Meaning in Art
Speaker: Oren Slozberg
Host: Commonweal
The presentation will be an opportunity to experience Visual Thinking Strategies. VTS is used in educational institutions and fine art museums internationally. This method was developed in collaboration between the NY MoMA and Developmental Psychologist, Abigail Housen. The VTS experience will engage viewers with visual art directly, developing their own meaning making abilities and observation skills.

LISA 

Leaders in Software Art (LISA) - Art SV/SF has created a groundbreaking partnership with LISA in order to bring digital art to, and create a dialogue with, the tech-savvy communities of the Bay Area by making software and electronic art an integral part of the fair.  LISA founder and tech art consultant Isabel Draves will bring together a selection of rising stars from the New York tech art community for exhibition and sale in dealer booths throughout the fair.

ICA 

San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art (SJICA) will exhibit artist John Carpenter’s Dandelion Clock interactive art video and will organize an exploration of new mobile art apps.

stanford art spaces

Stanford Art Spaces - Sponsored by the Center for Integrated Systems at Stanford University, curator and critic DeWitt Cheng will organize a show of unique and unusual Bay Area artists he has discovered through his 30 year career.

ZERO1 is presenting John Slepian’s Transcendence, a performance installation that humorously and ironically explores new forms of embodiment in the digital world. Using a hacked toy brainwave sensor, electronics, and powerful actuators, the artist is literally levitated through the power of his mind. Slepian will be performing Transcendence during scheduled hours each day of the art fair.

San Francisco-based gallery White Walls will exhibit new works by noted street artist APEX (Ricardo Richey), who will also complete an on-site mural on the exterior of the San Mateo Expo Hall during the fair.

UC davis

Tim Hyde and University of California Davis Art Studio present The Invitation, a series of 2014 photographs in which separate and distinct fields of inquiry at UC Davis are crystallized in one image, and Hexagon/Pentagon, a sculpture produced for the Skull Sessions, a modular installation to facilitate spirited exchange between artists, musicians, scientists and the public. All are invited to participate.

Hero Of Color City Kids Center will provide a safe playroom on-site for children ages 3-13, who are introduced to art while their parents visit Art SV/SF. Children enrolled in the program will have exclusive access to view the newly released film Hero of Color City as well as participate in activities including art explorations, games, puzzles and storytelling.

Kids Center will be open Friday + Saturday 11am - 6pm, Sunday 11am - 5pm. Movie will be shown Fri, Sat, Sun: Noon, 2pm and 4pm.

I PXL U, the official photo sharing platform for Art SV/SF, will sponsor a special exhibition of monumental Banksy works from his 2013 New York City residency, featured at the Keszler Gallery booth. One of the most intriguing artists of our time, elusive English street artist Banksy has captured world-wide attention through his graffiti art.

Shipyard Trust for the Arts (STAR) will exhibit photos from participants in STAR’s program, Family Art Day and Artist in Residence Program, as well as additional works from Hunters Point Shipyard Artists.

 SFADA The San Francisco Art Dealers Association (SFADA) will highlight artwork from a selection of its 55 member galleries in a show curated by Lauren O’Connell, a recent masters graduate in Curatorial Studies at the California College of the Arts (CCA). 20% of sales proceeds will be donated to CCA’s Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts.

One Art Nation Symposium - Art SV/SF will collaborate with One Art Nation to offer The Art Symposium, which brings together leading opinion leaders and art industry experts to speak on a range of timely topics from the current structure of the art market to talks on collecting art, succession planning, protecting unusual art and issues of art valuation.
