  • Jaehyo Lee
Biography : Mr. Lee’s large-scale sculptures employ an array of materials to transform the space. Using natural materials and metal, his work explores themes of transformation and decay. At the heart of his aesthetic is the rawness of the material. Mr. Lee seeks to employ the material, not alter it, in creating his sculptural work. Whether he is working with twigs, fiber, logs or steel, the substance maintains its original character and it is the space that is altered and transformed. Mr. Lee, who lives and works in Korea, is a graduate of the Hong-Ik University where he studied carving and modeling. In 1997 he had his first solo show at the Seoul Arts Center. One year later, he was distinguished as "Today's Best Young Artist" by the Korea National Tourism Organization. In 1998 he was the recipient of the prestigious Osaka Triennial Grand Prize. Those two events catapulted Mr. Lee’s career forward and his body of work continues to grow and transform as he becomes increasingly recognized as a strong voice in the international contemporary sculpture community. Detailed Description : Jaehyo Lee’s large-scale sculptures employ an array of materials to transform the space his work inhabits. Using organic materials and metal, the internationally acclaimed South Korean sculptor explores themes of transformation and decay through functional art and fine art objects. At the heart of his aesthetic is the rawness of the material. Lee seeks to employ the material, not alter it, in creating his sculptural work. Whether he is working with twigs, fiber, logs or steel nails, the substance maintains its original character and it is the space that is altered and transformed. Also represented by: Shine Artists,

Detailed Description :
Chinese artist Lianghong Feng's paintings synthesize influences from the New York School of Abstract Expressionism and those of ancient Chinese calligraphy. But they transcend mere fusion: Feng interprets the tropes of abstraction with a compositional savvy that elevates his works to a uniquely realized art. Feng says, “I must avoid my pre-existing knowledge and constructs, and enter my personal terra incognita.” Though he clearly channels the hands of 20th century abstract masters (and also cites urban graffiti as a primary painting inspiration), his spontaneity is honest and his language is his own. The images evoke ethereal landscapes, snatches of dreams, the beauty lurking in the countless corners of the urban environment.

 Detailed Description :
Grade's work overtly engages with its surrounding environments, both architectural and natural. When indoors, his work references built space. When presented outdoors, the work evolves materially. Weather patterns affect the work, and the exposed surfaces, evolve, disintegrate and morph into something new. Collector was installed in the Willapa Bay in Washington State as an oyster bed. During the piece's tenure in the bay, Grade continually tested the water quality; the waters in and around Seattle have been affected by pollution, which Grade called attention to with the work.

ABOUT

CYNTHIA-REEVES represents an international roster of emerging and mid-career artists who share a process-apparent sensibility in their art. We are committed to artwork that demonstrates an authentic voice, an innovative use of materials and an appreciation of the mark in diverse media: site-based installation, video, sculpture, painting and works on paper. A sub-text to the gallery’s program is artwork that provokes a discourse around the convergence of art and science, as well as our relationship to the natural world – a discourse essential to the examination of contemporary art and culture within the context of these broader challenges.

CYNTHIA-REEVES PROJECTS is a forum for off-site and collaborative projects done in concert with partner galleries and non-profit organizations, including museum exhibitions and other platforms that bring our artists’ works to the attention of a broader audience. Due to our strong focus on sculptural works, we are actively involved with public art projects in the United States and abroad, helping to facilitate installations of large-scale works in the public domain. Our most recent partners include The Hudson River Park Trust, the Union Square Association, and NYC Parks. As a way of expanding the gallery model, we initiated a number of innovative, off-site projects, which provide us the opportunity to curate significant exhibitions, and focus on specific and timely issues and/or artists’ works.
